Hello Friends & Fellow Photographers,
New Photo Gallery: TRAVERSING THE KACHCHH:
Traversing The Kachchh
Firstly, let me welcome the many new subscribers to my periodic newsletters. This is the first newsletter of 2010, and I apologize for not authoring any since last November, but I was traveling.
I'm pleased to share a gallery of new photographs made during my recent Tribes of Rajasthan & Gujarat Photo Expedition. This gallery is a collection of photographs made as the photo-expedition made its way from the east in Southern Rajasthan to the west of India; an area called Kachchh or Kutch which borders Pakistan. Due to the sensitivity of the area, it's mandatory to obtain a special permit from the town of Bhuj, before visiting the tribal areas.

A number of nomadic and pastoral tribal groupings were encountered during the photo-expedition, ranging from the well-known Rebaris (or Rabaris) to the reclusive Jats and the Wadhas. Some of those wear flamboyant clothes and jewelry, while others are more austere. Some are Hindus, worshiping specific deities while others are Muslims such as the Mir and the Jats.
The photographic samples I chose for this gallery are more travel than editorial, as there's no real linear connection (ie no story line) between them. I am preparing a multimedia photo-essay on the Baneshwar festival or mela, which will be more photo-journalism biased.
Incidentally, I've posted the verdict on the Tribes of Rajasthan & Gujarat Photo~Expedition during which these photographs were made. You can read it
HERE.
